Longwood University has a long-standing history for preparing exceptional educators since its founding in 1839. In this tradition, Longwood’s Office of Teacher Preparation (OTP) is committed to supporting all students who strive to become educators in P12 schools. OTP’s mission is two-fold: assist candidates with successfully navigating the teacher preparation process and to place future educators in field experiences that will prepare them to be reflective citizen leaders and professional practitioners.
The Office of Teacher Preparation (OTP) provides guidance and support to all candidates who plan to pursue teacher licensure from admission to teacher preparation through graduation. OTP coordinates information and orientation sessions, one-on-one advising, field placements including practicum and student teaching, and recognition events.
Longwood University’s teacher preparation programs are approved by the Virginia Department of Education and State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. In addition, Longwood University’s educator preparation programs are accredited at the initial and advanced-level by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
