Best thing about Longwood?
The close relationships between staff and students. It is obvious that faculty truly have their students’ best interests in mind. There was never a time when a professor of mine wasn’t eager to assist me and help me grow. That isn’t the case at every university so I didn’t take it for granted.
One professor who you couldn’t have done it without?
Dr. John Miller, associate professor of English, is the reason I enjoy reading literature so much now. I always loved writing, but struggled to find enjoyment in reading. My first semester at Longwood I took Dr. Miller’s Witches, Outlaws and Rebels course. I’ll never forget the great experience I had reading works like Billy the Kid and The Tell-Tale Heart. Dr. Miller always encouraged me and helped me realize that I’m a strong writer, and that really helped my confidence.
One unforgettable experience you had at Longwood?
Attending basketball games in the Joan Perry Brock Center (and Willett Hall before that) and cheering on our teams as we went on some great runs to the NCAA tournament. JPB truly is the toughest place to play in the Big South and I enjoyed contributing to that environment with my Theta Chi brothers.
Longwood in three words?
Positive. Growth. Everyday.
I am ready for career success because…
Longwood has prepared me to be a successful teacher and active community member by providing a strong foundation in teaching methods and classroom management. Longwood also emphasized the importance of community involvement, helping me see the value of being an engaged contributor. I have learned a lot about myself, specifically how to balance my goals, recognize my strengths and grow both as a teacher and an individual. I feel ready to make a positive impact in Prince William County Public Schools.
