Alecia Blackwood is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education and Counseling at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. She teaches literacy, behavior management, and human development courses and is part of the Provost’s AI Task Force (2024–2025), contributing to institutional initiatives on artificial intelligence in education.

Dr. Blackwood has over 25 years of experience in education, spanning across  K-12, higher education, and community contexts. She is a 2017 Fulbright-Hays Scholar to Namibia and Botswana and the author of Ubuntu Pedagogy: Becoming a Responsive Ubuntu Educator, reflecting her expertise in Ubuntu-informed, culturally responsive pedagogy.

In 2024, Dr. Blackwood was selected as one of seven faculty members nationally to serve as an AI Explorations for Education Preparation Programs (EPPs) Faculty Fellow with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), contributing to the development of AI-integrated instructional materials for Educator Preparation Providers. She is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences in the United States, Canada, and Africa.

Her research focuses on culturally responsive teaching, early literacy, instructional design, AI integration in education, social-emotional learning, and inclusive excellence framed by Ubuntu pedagogy. At Longwood, she serves as an Inclusive Pedagogy Faculty Consultant. She is actively involved in multiple institutional committees, including Lancer for a Day, Summer Literacy Institute, and Lifelong Learning and EdTech initiatives.
